Dear Parents and Carers

Breakfast Club and Morning Routines

You will have received by parent mail the letter from the Director of Education announcing that from September 2018 there will be a charge of £1 for the child-care element of Breakfast Clubs.  I appreciate that this is a sign of the times and an extra £5 per child per week is an additional burden on a family budget. Unfortunately School is powerless to do anything about this.

It does mean though that we have to be clear as to how we manage the Club and place restrictions on what, up till now, has been a very informally organised provision and a great  help to families.

From September we will continue to operate the Breakfast Club but on this understanding:

The total time of the club is an hour, 8:00 – 9:00

It is important to understand that the breakfast, both food and a supervision element is free. A nominal 20 minute period is allocated within the 8:00 – 8:40am breakfast serving times for children to be served, eat and clear away.

Children in receipt of free school meals are exempt from the charge.

1. Doors open at 8:00.
2. Children have to be booked in and pay £1 for the child care element (up to 40 minutes) on Parent Pay.  Bookings must be made by 4:00pm the day before.  School can’t accept any children into the club who are five days in arrears until the debt is cleared.
3. Breakfast will be served from 8:00 till 8:40.
4. Arrival after 8:40 will mean we cannot guarantee to serve breakfast and your child will only be in the club for child care until 9:00.
5. Formal supervision (the chargeable element) will run from 8:40 until 9:00 when children will be released to go into class and become supervised by the School.
6. Parents of children who do not attend breakfast club but have, under common practise, brought their children into school early will no longer be able to do this unless they supervise them themselves, outside on the playground.

Parents must:

either enrol for the breakfast and child care element at the cost stipulated by Monmouthshire

or

supervise their own children until the school opens it doors at 9:00. Children cannot be left on the school premises on their own.

We ask you all to honour this requirement and not take advantage of any supervision that may be provided by the Breakfast Club staff on the playground.  Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
