School Swimming Lessons

Every child in Wales has an entitlement to attend school swimming lessons during their time in Junior school (Key Stage 2). The National Curriculum for Physical Education in Wales states that pupils should be taught to:

  • Develop skills of water safety and personal survival
  • Swim unaided for a sustained period of time

The school starts swimming lessons at Chepstow Leisure Centre for Junior pupils (Year 3 to Year 6). The National Curriculum in Wales states that by the end of Year 6, children should be able to swim 25 metres.

The Classes take it in turn over the school year to attend swimming lessons and pupils come to school on that day in the school jogging suit and yellow gym shirt. School will send out a permission slip and request form for assistance with the cost of transport.
